  • Condition: Excellent vintage condition with no chips, no cracks, no flakes. Light age tone (grey/lavender) to the clear glass. Fine scratches of use are visible when held to the light and inspected closely. Normal defects from creation - some small air bubbles in the glass (note - there’s one air bubble burst at center of the smooth pontil, feel-able on underside, not top). Random sprinkle of tiny etching dots present, please see detail photo. Clean, odor-free, and from a non-smoking home,

    Welcome!

    Description - One (1), antique, clear glass dish or tray, etched with an elegant & intricate roulette design, and hand done, calligraphic script of the words: “WORLD’S FAIR 1893”. This is a souvenir of the 1893 World’s Fair Columbian Expo in Chicago.
    Shallow, round dish, with curved sides, would have been used for holding rings, jewelry, or calling cards.
    The glass is mouth blown, I believe, as it is somewhat thin, without mold lines, and has a central, raised, polished pontil
    Smallish: 4-3/4” diameter x 3/4” tall. Shown with a large lemon, and a ruler, for scale.
    Scarce dish - no others found online. Because of the relative delicacy of the glass, likely few survived 128 years later.
    May have been made by the Libbey Glass blowers at the fair - as the Libbey pavilion had a full, glass blowing workshop.
    Unmarked as to maker.
