We are in the midst of writing our third history of the Columbian Expo, this one COLUMBIAN RARITIES. It is not by any means limited to only medals/tokens and we know of several collectors working concurrently to catalog Columbiana (primarily numismatic material) that sould result in several long-awaited books on the subject over the next few years.
When one looks at the largest world's fairs ever held, none even come close to the numismatic legacy of the WCE. Whether one is studying the early fairs (1851 through the WCE which were primarily English and French expositions or the more modern and massive world's fairs from 1904 St. Louis through 1964 New York the numbers of souvenirs can rival the WCE in sheer volume of souvenirs/collectibles/ephemera but not come even close to the number of medals and tokens.
