Description
For your consideration, twoJapanese hand painted and silk screened silk pieces representing the cherry blossom and the peacock. In one image peacock is roosting in a tree and in the second he is strutting. These pieces appear to have been framed at one time. I do not know how old they are or who the artist is (signed in Japanese at the bottom, see pictures).
These are nice pieces and would look good in a frame or incorporated into a larger fabric piece or wearable work of art.
Below is what the peacock and cherry blossoms symbolize.
Each piece measures 10 ½inches by 17 inches. Pictured is also what the silks look like from the back.
The peacock has a rich symbolism that brings out its power and dynamism, and the cherry blossoms’ have the symbolic meaning bringing a groundedness and gratitude for the present moment and renewal. One of the most auspiciousbirds is the peacock. With symbolic roots in a variety of religions and cultures, the peacock has come to stand for immortality — the manifestation of the phoenix rising from the ashes. Cherry blossoms symbolize renewal, which ties into the immortal goodness of the peacock. As the flower of spring, the cherry blossom represents a time of renewal, as well as calls out to the fleeting nature of the seasons and cycles of life.
