    Description

Kaoru Kawano was an artist active the sosaku hanga movement.  Artists working in this movement created the image, carved the block, and printed the final artwork by themselves.  Kawano was born in Hokkaido in 1916, and studied at the Kawabata Art School in the mid-1930s.  He subsequently exhibited in the west, garnering international renown.  He combined western-style elements with the woodblock tradition, incorporating wood grain into the overall design.
This print is in excellent condition, with vivid colors and good ink saturation.  It is unframed.  It was formerly attached to a mat with two cloth hinges at the top (see 4th photo) and wheat paste.
