    Description

"Intramural Railway" 2-Color Ad by General Electric and Promo for the French Bakery at
    the Chicago 1893 World's Fair
    - 7 x 3.5 inches
    smooth buff sheet
    with
    black
    print
    and
    red overprint
    of the
    route and stops
(cover shown); back cover with black print and list of stops and nearby buildings in Jackson Park (shown). Chicago:
    Intramural Railway Co.
    ,
1893. (4) pages folded sheet printed on smooth buff paper (inside pages shown). An elaborate ad for the
    French Bakery
which makes me hungry and was located in the southeast end of
    Jackson Park
as shown on the front map (shown).
    - Bonus:
    Detailed treatise by
    Thomas Bullard
, noted author on trains of all types, entitled "
    Columbian Intramural Railway
" (cover and 3 pages shown). 8.5 x 5.5 inches with green stiff cover and black print (shown). Chicago: Privately Printed, 1987. 19 pages. The intramural was an elevated "clean" 3-rail electric train powered by GE motors from a power house at the south end of the Park.

    Supplemental Background Information:
    Their exhibit in
    Jackson Park
    was located in the
    Transportation Building
as listed in "The Official Directory" of exhibitors (shown and digitally highlighted). I've also inserted a scan of their full page ad in the Directory (shown). The NYC RR was owned by
    Chauncy Depew
famed orator and champion of the WCE (portrait shown for reference). They also displayed outdoors the "999" locomotive which held the land speed record for years; the high drive wheel engine is currently displayed in the Chicago Museum of Science and Industry.
    - Condition:
    Excellent.
Covers and hinge fine (shown). Dark green print bright and not rubbed (shown). Hinge perfect with no separation (shown). No page marks, tears, or stains. No edge wear. Corners sharp. Upper right corner bend line on front cover only.
