    Description

This is a very unique design variation of an apothecary trade sign. The mortar and pestle is the most recognizable form of trade sign for a apothecary or pharmacist business. This particular sign is flat on the back side to mount on a wall, unique. It is made of copper and has three large red glass jewels on the sides that light up. It was originally gas or oil lighted, note the vent on the top. Sometime in it's life it was electrified and the jewels light up wonderfully. The handle on the pestle is wood and appears to be a replacement.
The piece is 35 1/2" tall including the pestle, 23" wide and 17" deep. The mounting plate on the back is 24 1/2" high x 21 3/8" wide and is brass. Dates to the late 1800's early 1900's and is in good condition with some wear but is a great sturdy wall hanger.
