A hand-made copy of a model for the manufacturing of votive tablets
The original of the tablet was discovered in Bulgaria in the vicinity of the Smolyan lakes in 1952. It dates back to the third century AD.
The bronze plaque depicts a quadriga (four galloping horses) drawing a gig. Dionysus and the Bacchante are sitting in the gig. Dionysus is holding the reins, while the Bacchante is carrying a krater of wine.
A snake slithering
in the same direction is depicted beneath the chariot. It is as if life and death are racing towards the sanctuary, in the direction of the altar with the blazing fire.
A brass casting made in accordance with an ancient, authentic method with a negative print in foundry moulds. Old moulders toil over the plaque - some of the remaining few who still practise the craft. After the casting, the plaque is lapped and patinated by professional artists and sculptors.
The plaque is suitable as a gift. It can be hung on walls.
