    Rare and original, ca1930 Spud Cigarettes, paperboard Advertising Sign featuring a beautiful, young woman wearing a wonderful summer outfit. Spud Cigarettes, manufactured by the Axton-Fisher Tobacco Company of Louisville, Kentucky were the first menthol Cigarette sold in the United States and they got their name from their creator - Lloyd “Spud” Hughes of Mingo Junction, Ohio who came up with the idea of treating tobacco with menthol to “cool” the smoke.
    This wonderful, "Trolley" Style Advertising Sign measures 21" by 11" and is matted and framed for display in a modern, metal frame (overall size of framed display is 24” by 14”).
    The Sign features a portrait of a beautiful young woman wearing a low cut, red and white candy striped dress and wide brimmed hat. There is an image of a pack of Spud Cigarettes to the left of the lady and text on the Sign reads “Smoke Spud Cigarettes / Now 15¢ / Plain or Cork Tipped”. Further text on the sign reads “Avoid Offensive Cigarette Breath”. The Sign carries the mark of the lithographer – the Eison-Freeman Company of Long Island City, N.Y.
    This rare and original, ca1930 Spud Cigarettes Cigarettes Advertising Sign is in very good condition and displays nicely. The colors are generally bright and vibrant and there is no physical damage or repairs of any kind. There is some light soiling overall and some fading from moisture along the left hand edge but overall the Sign displays nicely as matted and framed.
    A very rare and original, ca1930 Spud Menthol Cigarettes, Trolley Car Advertising Sign and a fantastic addition to any collection!!
